Annual General Meeting Tues 10 August 2010

Nhat and Huich have been running the ‘Let’s Talk’ Conversation Group for a couple of years now, and we think it is high time for a new team of people to take over. Thus we will be holding an Annual General Meeting to elect the executive committee, which will consist of 2 co-conveners, 1 Secretary and 1 Treasurer.

We BEG all of you to turn up otherwise not very good things will happen, and we also encourage all of you, international and local students, to consider running for a position.

Meeting Details:
Tuesday 10 August 2010, 1pm, Room 225, Level 2 Alice Hoy Building

Election Procedure
(1) Before the meeting, all candidates should prepare a short statement as to why they would like a position.

(2) Candidates can either nominate themselves or ask someone to nominate him/her

(3) Another person will need to second the nomination

(4) We vote!

There is also a general committee to assist the executive committee with their work. These positions are not for election – rather, the new executive committee will decide the number of people they need and seek volunteers. Further discussion of this will be had at the AGM

A reminder that our sessions are at these times:

Monday and Tuesday- 1pm to 2pm

Wednesday and Thursday- 4pm-5pm

Members from Semester 1 are required to re-register their interest. Membership fees ($1/$2) will be collected at the first conversation session, which will be in Week 2.

You will be notified of the location for the sessions soon.

On a break…and gearing up for Semester 2!

The ‘Let’s Talk’ Conversation Group has had a fantastic Semester 1, and many thanks go to all our facilitators and international students who’ve supported the club.  We’re currently on a bit of break but will be back in full action for Semester 2!

Some upcoming events are: a full club social gathering in the first week, a club Annual General Meeting, miscellaneous activities (such as film nights, a possible trip to the country), and of course, our conversation sessions. So stay tuned!

To join the club, please fill in the online registration form which will be up in the next week. For those members who were with the club in Semester 1 and intend to stay with us for Semester 2, you will be required to register your details again. We encourage absolutely everyone to join us!

“Let’s Talk!” Semester 1 2010 Overview

Our conversation sessions for Semester 1, 2010, have now commenced. If you would like to join a session, please contact: letstalk.bysalp@gmail.com and provide us with the following details:

• Preferred day for attending a conversation session

We run our sessions from Monday to Friday, at 5pm-6pm. Our membership fees are $1 for Student Union members and $2 for non-Student Union members. Further information about joining the club as a participant may be found under the ‘Information for Participants’ section of the website.

If you would like to become a facilitator for ‘Let’s Talk’, please send us an email notifying us of your interest in this role. Again, information for facilitators may be found under the ‘Information for Facilitators’ section of the website.

Group Social Gathering II

Just to remind you we’re having our social gathering next Friday the 18th September!

Randy and Nhat will  meet you  at the front entrance of the Sidney Myer Asia Centre (doors facing Swanston Street) at 6pm, and then you”ll go together to Saigon Inn,  on Liverpool Street, near Parliament Station. Their numbers are 0432 105 058 (Randy) and 0432 124 688 (Nhat)

Here are more details for the presentation skills session that will be held on Tuesday 15th September, in Room 224 of the Law Building. If you haven’t registered your interest, do so now – or just turn up.

Please send an image of your role model to calvincent39@hotmail.com before the session. Or, bring the image to the session.

How to get there:

The law school is located at grid square R16 of the University map.

From Grattan Street, walk all the way down University Square. Law School’s just at the end of it. When you enter the building take the lift up to Level 2.

Turn right when you exit the lift area, and walk to the end of the corridor (you should see two noticeboards facing you). There are classrooms to your left, and you should see Room 224!
